Description
Nexium 24HR capsules contain esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. These capsules are available in an easy-to-swallow, non-stored, 20 mg dose. Nexium 24HR tablets contain the same active ingredient as Nexium 10mg.
Esomeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and duodenal ulcers caused by certain stomach acid. It reduces the amount of stomach acid the body receives from the intestines. This reduces pain and allows healing ulcers to heal. Esomeprazole works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Directions
Take one tablet with a glass of water at least 30 minutes before taking another tablet.
If you have your own meal, take this before consuming anything that contains fat. Do not take a higher dose of Nexium 24HR than one tablet per day. The recommended dose is one tablet per day. This may be taken with or without food.
Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than advised. Esomeprazole may cause a drowsiness, dizziness or weakness. Do not drive, use machinery, or use any kind of functed walk. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a stomach or intestinal ulcer, a hypersensitivity to the drug or to any of the excipients.
Caution
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to esomeprazole or any other ingredients of the capsules.
Before taking Nexium 24HR, inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken ritonavir or any other medicines containing esomeprazole. Do not take this medicine if you are taking ritonavir or any other medicine containing esomeprazole.
Dosing: Adults: 20 mg Nexium 24HR: One tablet per day
The usual recommended dose is one tablet (20 mg) once a day. The dose may be increased or decreased based on the severity of the condition being treated. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than prescribed.
Side effects may be mild to moderate in severity. If any side effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
